ハブヒロシ

アーティスト/遊鼓奏者/医学博士

インドネシア国立芸術大学でのガムラン修行や、セネガルの人間国宝ドゥドゥ・ンジャエ・ローズ・ファミリーのもとでのサバールドラム修行など、世界各地の芸能を学び、馬喰町バンドでの音楽活動や、関ジャニ∞や台湾原住民とのレコーディングなど、様々な音楽の領域で活動する。岡山に移住後、地域づくりに関わりはじめ、小水力発電制作や山菜収穫イベント、丹田呼吸法の伝承活動などに取り組む。2018年より岡山大学にて疫学と出会い、2022年7月よりハーバード大学で社会疫学の研究をするため渡米し、帰国後は京都に拠点を移し京都大学にて疫学研究を継続中。現在は、芸能の現在性について考えながらも、出会いと対話のプロセスを形にし、ある種の詩/沈黙のような瞬間に触れることを目指し、主にコミュニティーを巡るアートプロジェクトを展開している。本映画では、舞台となった日本語教室を立ち上げ、日本語の先生として出演者らと出会う。

HABU Hiroshi

HABU Hiroshi is a Japanese artist, "Yuko" drum (which he made and named) player, researcher, community activist, and the chief director of the Association to Promote Tanden Breathing Methods, an NPO. He studied film at Tokyo Zokei University, and received the Zokei prize for his graduation work which was an art performance piece.

He also studied folk performing arts from around the world. This included training in gamelan music at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Surakarta and learning the Sabar drum from the Doudou N'Diaye Rose Family in Senegal. He also played music in various genres, such as with the Japanese Bakurocho Band and made recordings with pop groups like Kanjani Eight, and the Amis, indigenous group from Taiwan.

In 2017, he moved from Tokyo to Okayama. He traveled about 800 kilometers on foot taking 24 days to do so while beating his own drum. After relocating to Ukan, a rural village of 2000 people in west Japan, he built a small hydroelectric power plant, held events to harvest edible wild plants and organized the music event "Habu Live! Love Life!" He also revived the "Chouzou Ondo" which is a local traditional singing and dancing event that takes place with residents.

He earned his Master of Public Health degree from the Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama University in 2019, and has been in the United States since July 2022 to research Social Epidemiology at the Harvard Graduate School of Public Health.

In pursuing his current goal of delving into the origin of the arts, he has come to recognize the importance of human interactions and dialogue as fundamental to the process. Capturing silence and poetry, for example, are key concepts that he envisions developing in future community-based arts projects.
